About Sarah
Sarah Carlier (1981) investigates how we give meaning to the world around us and how we shape it. She feels a growing need to create space for deceleration, wonder and attention—qualities that are often under pressure in a society that revolves around efficiency and control.

Inspiration from the everyday
Carlier draws her inspiration from the everyday: the traces that people leave behind in public spaces, objects, and repetitive actions such as traditions and rituals. By collecting these and following her imagination, she creates new connections and opens up perspectives on things that would otherwise go unnoticed in her own unique way.

Looking again
Her work ranges from photographic or filmic installations in museums to performances or interventions in public spaces, always with the intention of blurring the boundaries between the personal and the collective, the everyday and the museum. For her, art is an invitation to learn to look again, to slow down and to discover new perspectives. It is never just meant to look at, but also to participate and reflect on the structures in which we live.

Sarah Carlier studied photography at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague and followed the Master’s in Photography at the AKV/St. Joost in Breda. Her work has been exhibited at Stroom Den Haag, Noorderlicht Groningen, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and FOMU Antwerp, among others.
