Art Lovers #13 – Pleased to meet Johannes Langkamp
Today is the Lighthouse Festival at The Hague University of Applied Sciences, and Art Lovers is present.
This is Art Lovers #13, featuring Johannes Langkamp. Langkamp is showing his work Pleased to Meet You.
You’re invited to take a seat on this artwork. However, the bench has hundreds of wheels that turn sitting still into a game. With Pleased To Meet You, artist Johannes
Langkamp creates an object that conveys his curiosity for play to the viewer.
Johannes Langkamp (1985) is fascinated by movement and change. At everyday moments he asks himself: What happens if I drop a sheet of paper from a building? Let a spraying spray can roll across the floor? Or if I make a wooden bench with a thousand yellow wheels as a seat? The first question leads to a next question, in which all kinds of unexpected things can happen. Langkamp creates kinetic models and sculptures. The idea can come about in a flash, but the realisation naturally
takes much more time. Movement and playfulness are the starting point.
In the Depot of Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, visitors could try out Pleased To Meet You for the first time. Also at Museum Voorlinden, work by Johannes Langkamp was at display.
Pleased To Meet You will be on dislay at THUAS until October 13th.
