Hans van Bentem

Hans van Bentem (b. 1965, The Hague, the Netherlands) studied monumental art and design, and went on to produce numerous works for public space.

As a rule these are colourful ceramic sculptures encompassing symbols and figures from many different cultures. Van Bentem has also worked with crystal, producing chandeliers and sculptures in different shapes in which themes from different layers of visual culture are juxtaposed – an ‘anything goes’ attitude that primarily serves to emphasise the abundance of things that is present in the world.

On his widespread travels, Van Bentem absorbs all sorts of impressions, processing them as an endless stream of associations to create his colourful oeuvre. His autonomous works can also be read as exuberant postmodern collages.

Van Bentem’s work is included in various art collections and has been shown in exhibitions in the Netherlands and abroad. His work can be seen permanently in various places in public space in the Netherlands.
