Lon Robbé

Lon Robbé (b. 1946, Velp) studied art history at the University of Groningen and worked there for some time as a modern art teacher in the 1970s. In between, a year at Adademie Minerva followed in the same city. In 1979 she finally started working as a visual artist. Her theoretical background comes to the fore: it is not about the picture for her: “I want you to see your own point of view in the image, to bring your own experience with you. I want to stand up for subjectivity in a world where everything seems controlled. ”

Robbé experiments with size and scale in staged photography and printing techniques. She casts everyday objects in latex molds which she then prints on linen. Later she also uses digital techniques. She prints scanned details of old holiday photos from her parents in monumental format, so that the images take on a life of their own as almost abstract compositions of black and white pixels.
