Forty photographs by Carl de Keyzer are hanging in the corridors of the main building. The photos were taken in 1995. De Keyzer was commissioned to photograph all locations of the Hague University of Applied Sciences in order to capture the identity of these “old” environments and its users.

After all, all these locations (except the Laan van Poot) would be abandoned in 1996 when they moved to the new building. De Keyzer’s photos hold the past for the future. They show students and employees in places that many will remember. Stairwells, canteens, workshops, practice kitchens and computer rooms from buildings that have since been demolished or renovated.

De Keyzer has taken many of the photos with flash, creating a strange balance of dark and light. It gives the photos an intense character. This is enhanced by unusual camera angles which enliven the composition and make situations tangible.
