Initially Wijnanda Deroo photographed in black and white, but in the 1990s switched to colour, so that her work took on an entirely different character.

“I am not ultimately attached to photography. Like clay or paint, photography is just a medium. It is a matter of chance that until now I have found that I can best realize my ideas in this medium.”
